Prove It On Us is an evening length work produced and choreographed by Akoiya Harris. This project celebrates the legacy of Black Queer blues women such as Ma Rainey, Gladys Bentley, and Bessie Smith. It looks at how because of the work they did, we can dream up new futures as Black Queer femmes today. Prove It On Us uses dance, film, and music to examine Black Queer ways of loving.

During this workshop, we will dive into the creation of the Prove It On Us. We will learn the history behind some of the Blues Women referenced in the piece and talk about how to make archival materials into dance. We will also engage in movement exercises to embody the material we discuss. This free workshop will be hosted in collaboration with Arte Noir and Afrosapphix and open to all levels.
