This film was made with the support of Velocity Dance Center, Gay City, and Northwest Film Forum. Having lived in two different historically Black neighborhoods (Harlem, NYC and the Central District, Seattle), I have firsthand witnessed the displacement of Black people that’s happening in cities nationwide. This work looks at what it feels like to still reside in a community that is being broken apart. It explores how spaces can hold warm memories while also triggering feelings of grief, isolation, and loneliness. This project reminds us that “home” is not always found in a physical place but rather in self and community.
